A half-hitch is so simple that it's hard to believe it's a knot
Tying Half Hitches

1. Wrap the rope around the object twice to form a complete turn around the object, ending with both the standing part and bitter end* pointing towards you. That’s the round turn. 2. To tie each half hitch, send the bitter end over and around the standing part, and then continue through the space between itself and the standing part. Tighten by pulling the bitter end perpendicularly to the standing part.

3. Repeat step two for the second half hitch. 4. A completed round turn and two half hitches can be made more secure by seizing the bitter end to the standing part with a piece of twine.
