Ginger Lemonade

by the Editors

If you're feeling Martha-esque, put aside some lemonade as ice cubes. Freeze in trays to serve in club soda. Garnish with basil

  • 3 cups white sugar (more or less to taste)
  • 4 quarts water
  • 3-4inches of fresh ginger root, peeled and sliced
  • 4 cups fresh lemon juice

In an 8-quart saucepan combine sugar, water, and ginger. Heat over medium until sugar is melted. Increase heat until boiling, stirring occasionally.

Remove from heat and allow to cool slightly.

Stir in lemon juice. Cool 15 minutes. Strain to remove ginger.

Refrigerate. Serve over ice. Garnish with mint, lemon slices, or a stick of sugar cane.
